While booking live bands at the famed Kaldi's Coffeehouse in the French Quarter, Porter he was befriended by poet John Sinclair (manager/spiritual advisor of Detroit legendary punk outfit MC5,) which lead to more album recordings.After a move to Philadelphia at 22, Porter made the natural progression to DJ and became the musical director of The Five Spot, one of Philly's most recognized clubs. DJing also lead him to open for such acts as Sneaker Pimps, Comustible Edison, Candido, Dirty Three, Thurston MOORE & John Fahey. By 24, Porter finally turned his musical talent into a retail machine. Cue Records became an award winning vinyl & Dj shop, frequented by music addicts worldwide such as Radiohead, ?uestlove, Jazzy Jeff & Masters At Work. The store also housed live performances & appearances by Little Brother, Talib Kweli, A Tribe Called Quest, Common & Gang Starr. Porter has recently taken his DJ skills to another level, with such clients as Nokia, Spin Magazine, Red Bull, Netflix, Camel & George Magazine, spinnig in New York (CBGB's), Los Angeles, San Francisco & Las Vegas (The Palms) He now opens for legends like The Pixies, Beck, Bebel Gilberto, Femi Kuti, Afghan Whigs, Maceo Parker & Medeski, Martin & Wood, and recently landed the gig of assistant musical supervisor on Jeff Goldblum's new film /Pittsburg./ Frequent articles in Philadelphia City Paper, Philadelphia Weekly, Wired and Scion Magazine have solidified his place in the current music scene. Porter continues to innovate the relationship between music and technology, even being credited as one of the first to develop iPOD music styling as a service to retail and hospitality venues. Whatever is next in music, Adam Porter has probably already been there. |
