James Peterson, better known as DJ Statik has been dubbed the busiest DJ on the planet by a number of people for various reasons. Best known for his role as 1/5th of Philadelphiaís most prolific and well respected DJ/Production crew, Illvibe Collective, he has already made significant accomplishments and gained the respect of his peers and mentors.

Getting his start at the mere age of 12 when his mother handed over an old school disco mixer, Statik took to the generic piece of equipment and never looked back. Rummaging through a wide variety of genres found in his familyís record collection, and consistently being surrounding by musicians, he was blessed with an incredible ear for music of all types at an early age. He was raised in a household where, in addition to original compositions, everything from Grand Funk Railroad to Eric B. & Rakim were being played at all times.

This has helped Statik hone his skill as one of the most respected tastemakers today. The blueprint of the DJ is symbolized by Statikís keen awareness of all types of music, aptly mixing and blending traditional hip-hop, new & classic soul, rare grooves, jazz, house, broken beat, Nu Jazz, Afrobeat, Samba, and Salsa while presenting the music in a way that makes everyone who listens feel itís produced exclusively for them.

Getting his creative start as a visual artist, Statik participated in Philadelphia Universityís design program before breaking to take his role in music more serious, soon becoming the official tour DJ for Grand Agent in 2001 & Schoolz of Thought in 2002. Performing and touring with these artists affected Statikís work ethic in a positive way as he was being exposed to places heíd never seen and began sharing stages regularly with many major label artists including Les Nubians, Zap Mama, Common, Beck, Coldplay, Alanis Morrisette, and Big Daddy Kane.

In 2003, he met Bahamadia and soon thereafter began working as the official tour DJ for her as well. This union assisted in placing Statik in bigger rooms in front of larger audiences worldwide playing alongside such legends as James Brown, Roy Ayers, Estelle, Talib Kweli, Rodney P, and Norman Jay just to name a few. Around the time Statik began to make a more significant mark on the world with his talent, he obtained sponsorships from several companies including Ropeadope Clothing & Record Co. who Statik represented at the 2003 Detroit Electronic Music Festival alongside such headliners as Carl Craig, Vikter Duplaix, Danny Krivit, Peven Everette, and Dwele.

Since 2004, Statik has worked as the main Philadelphia resident for Scionís monthly and quarterly functions providing a regular platform for him to showcase his talent alongside the biggest DJs in the business including DJ Jazzy Jeff, Mark The 45 King, DJ Premier, Bobbito, and Grand Master Flash. Furthermore, his job with Scion has taken him on the road to various cities throughout the United States as well.

In 2005, in addition to holding down several residencies throughout the states, he and the Illvibe Crew were invited to play during all 3 days of the All Good Festival in West Virginia which was headlined by The Flaming Lips, Michael Franti from Spearhead, Ozoamatli, and other powerhouse bands.

In 2006, Statik was approached to work as the Music Supervisor for the critically acclaimed independent documentary, Scene Not Heard, an untold story of the women of hip-hop in Philadelphia. The Movie, although still not officially release to the public, has screened all over the world and has already won several awards. This step in Statikís career seemed to be a natural progression from all the work heís already been known for internationally as a radio personality, stage show DJ, turntablist, and partyrocker. You can expect to hear so much more from Statik and the Illvibe Collective in years to come as it is still relatively early in their careers in music. In the meantime, tune in regularly and catch Statik in the mix on one of his 4 radio broadcasts worldwide online. www.conspiracyuk.com, www.illvibe.net, and www.ropeadope.com.
