SURRA
Being influenced by many among the musical avante garde including Erik Satie, Sun Ra, Terry Riley, Delia Derbyshire, Steve Gurley, 4 Hero, IG Culture, to name just a few...Surra began disobeying the rules early on. DJing Drum & Bass in clubs at the ripe age of 15, His love of the music led him to spinning tunes on pirate radio stations in the UK, and studies in Sound Engineering. Then around 5 years ago Surra transfixed his DJ chops into committing drum arrangements to paper. This eventually led to production of UK Garage and House music under various monikers and remix duties for production outfits in the UK.

Now 26 and more focused along the musical path, Surra has come to the realization that his past productions didn't allow him the freedom to fully explore sound. Bear witness to his mission to take music in all directions through uncompromising experimentation. Surra seeks to emphasize in his works, the aspects of creativity, power, beauty, and a sense of spirituality. This is the reality of his sound: Honest. Grassroots. To the point.

So for those that dont know you, where do you hail from, and tell briefly what put you on this path your on.
I come from Cardiff which is in the UK, its about 120 miles north west of London. I guess DJing put me on this path. The love of mixing tracks together came first, then the curiosity of how tracks were made and what went into them, inspired me to try and make my own music.

How has the response been to your tracks? In any heavy playlists?
It really depends on the track itself and the person who's listening to it. Depending on the track it's been kind of biter sweet. I find it kind of personal. and that is what i'd rather... personal reactions if anything. From terrible to amazing. My tracks have been hiting playlists worldwide, from Greece to Atlanta, to Australia to Russia.

Nice.. and i know you have something coming for the Del Alma sampler.. how did you link with Amalgama.
I met with the Amalgama guys through a friend of mine in the uk, ricky, i don't know how he linked with those crazy cats...

Any other people you're close to.. like to collab with etc
Yeah watch out for these cats: Rojas, Aklimatize, Dogdaze, Afrikan Sciences, Kid Swing, Inverse Cinematics, Zoetic, Theives Of Time, CFO, Terra Danjah...

Working with Zoetic?
I don't know, but i really dig his outlook towards creativity and perception of music.

(Check info on artist Zoetic, as well as upcoming Detroit parties here.)

How would you describe your sound? Your stuff makes sense to me next to all those names... but i'm interested to hear your perspective.
I don't really know how to describe my sound to be honest, i try to do what is right, and that is being creative in any and every way possible, through artform. I don't think i would really class my music as broken beat, not through a genre perspective... but what inspires me about those guys is the outlook and take they have towards music, and the way they approach it.

How do you mean? as opposed to?
I mean they as individuals approach it from not just an unconventional angle, but a individual angle. That is what inspires me the most, an individual take on art, because nobody is the same and everybodys outlook is different being from what they were inspired from and what their outlook is at the present time.

Damn man, Chuckie's (aka Rojas) new stuff...
Chucky is dope.

Have you worked with him in the studio at all?
Yeah we hooked up in Puerto Rico. He's a very talented cat, I predict big tings from him. He's not just a studio don, he can write too.

He will be on bbradio soon actually. So name the 1 track thats curently blowing your mind and an old one from your past.
I'm not sure of the name but its a IG track i heard out in Miami, you'll have to ask Orin about it... its just beats and bass, no vocal... but its bad as fuck! An old one... Albert Heath - Kamil

What are you doing in that photo above?
Dropping some tracks with Rojas and Rob (Aklimatize) down at the beach in Puerto Rico.

What can we look forward to from you... what's in the pipeline?
You can expect tracks and remixes on Amalgama, Flyin' High, Other Worlds (Big Up), Tone Tantra

Can't wait.. well thanks for takin the time out, and anytime you want to bless bbradio with some more treats you are more than welcome.
Big up bro, keep rocking the forward sounds, respek
